Should I live? Or Should I survive? [Part 2]

Post by Simple Sorrows on Tue Mar 24, 2015 1:57 pm

~The season was once again changing... The ever blooming world continued to thrive while a lone soul stood alone.... Alone in the cross roads of hopelessness and despair. The only thing this soul was carrying was the burden of his past, his uncertainty of who he was. This souls constant questioning about his transparent existence... This soul in search for validation... In search for his proof of life... Yes the seasons where changing, while one soul was left to rot... It was April....A lie told in April that plunged the soul in and out of darkness... That lost soul was me... and the lie... The most beautiful lie in April, was her... ~

Albert woke up in cod sweat, his breaths came in and out in fast little successions. His heart was pounding so hard he could hear it's echos in the blood vessels in his ears. Albert was alone, in the room of his safe house. It was dim, it was the break of dawn. Albert sat there in silence unable to shake away the dream he just had. A smile, a laugh, a lie that would forever haunt him. At these times Albert was more afraid of his dreams than the undead that prowled the city. Albert's face rested in the palm of his hand. He felt a prick of pain in his heart, a set of tears welling in his eyes. Yet, he did not cry out in pain, nor did he let out a single tear fall from his eyes. Albert merely clenched his teeth and kept his eyes shut till all the pain went away for the time being. His heart beat slowing down, Albert was able to reel in his emotions and once again claim control over his emotionally battered body. Albert got up put on his long leather trench coat, all of which had a set of pockets that he could use to store goods. Albert adjusted his glasses, he took a deep breath in once again steeling himself for whatever waited for him outside.

Albert took the liberty to arm himself with a brick, He decided to take one knife with him just in case. Underneath the trench coat, Albert wore a white turtle neck to shield himself from the cold. He took the liberty to take one can of soda with him. His thoughts still partially cloudy, even so Albert pushed himself to go on. He too the rear view mirror that he found and put it in his back pocket. Once Albert was ready cautiously peeked through the window, to see if the coast was clear. If there was any threats Albert could easily sneak through the back and navigate around. The plan was simple, explore the area....scavenge what he could find....and hopefully meet up with Thomas once again.... Albert could of easily went with his friend...but Albert insisted that he go off by himself, he kept telling himself that he needed more supplies.... but deep down inside he knew it was just an excuse to be alone....

Two zombies, not much of a threat but one can never be to cautious. Albert moved to the back of his safe house. Albert once again peered through the semi covered windows. The area was clear. Albert gently opened the door, once outside he quietly shut and locked the door. Albert moved through the back of the building where he saw the two zombies. He fished out his mirror to observe the undead men safely at a distance. Albert noticed that there was a car near by them, it honestly looked like a piece of crap. It was no surprise to Albert, after all most of everything was left to rot and look like crap. Albert crouched low and stealthily made his way to a bush. Once Albert got to the bush he took the brick and chucked it at the cars window. Albert prayed that the alarm on the crippled vehicle was non functional. After all Albert called it too close for comfort yesterday....

The zombies took the bait to see what had made the sound. Albert then took the opportunity to go around in the back once a again to swoop up the goods he had spotted. With a quick cautious maneuver, Albert was able to quickly move around in the back without giving away his position. Albert go to the stuff he retrieved the baton and canned goods. Albert took one can and chucked it once again a few meters away from the car. The zombies once again followed the noise and headed farther away from Albert thus giving Albert plenty of time to escape.

Once Albert was far away, he set his next destination. The grand hotel. The place was huge, how ever Albert knew it would be risky, the tight corridors would make escape difficult, yet it also would give Albert the opportunity to sneak around and create more distractions.... Albert squinted to see what was ahead... there was a back ally he could use to detour just in case there where any threats up ahead...

Two zombies and a undead mutt. The zombies was not able to notice Albert, however the mutt had keener senses, it was able to catch Albert's scent. Albert cursed he quickly ducked away into the alleyway. The zombies was to slow too notice him, however the dog was much faster. Albert saw a fire escape, next to it was a trash bin. Albert ran at full speed he jumped and kicked off the large trash bin grabbing onto the un-dispatched fire escape ladder.  The mutt came into the alley, it jumped trying to bit Albert, but Albert was too high. Albert waited for a few seconds, once the mutt jumped and landed on the ground once again, he then hit the lever. The fire escape ladder fell down, thus pushing Albert with a good amount of speed. Albert then stomped on the dogs back thus breaking the bones in its neck and back. Albert quickly got off from the broken dog. It whined as it struggled to get up, Albert knew it was no longer a threat...

With that said Albert continued down the alley, with much caution. He came around the corner. Albert could check the corner if the area was clear, if not he could also check the open window next to him and go through the building. Albert took his handy rear view mirror, angled it to safely see what was around the corner...

A pair of zombies, it seemed that they where to occupied with feasting on the flesh of a fallen survivor. Albert took this opportunity to avoid them. He took his rear view mirror to scan the room with out giving away his presence. The room was clear, nothing life threatening was in there. Albert hoisted himself up and through the window, and made his way through building. Every turn he cautiously proceeded. With much luck Albert encountered no threats. However Albert soon came across a corner, for a moment he thought he had heard something... Just to be sure Albert took out his mirror and checked the area....for the most part he saw nothing, however there was a blind spot....Albert decided to take the risk and proceed with caution...

Albert let out a sigh of relief, there was nothing there. Albert decided to check around the room too see what else he could find. After a few minutes of scanning the area he was able to find himself some cash. Albert quickly stored it in one of the many pockets he had located on his coat. Then suddenly another rustle was heard, this time from the hallway Albert just came from. Perhaps there was a zombie Albert had missed. Albert quickly ducked behind the counter, he grabbed a lamp ready to smash it on what ever came around the corner. On his other hand he held the baton ready to follow up with the finishing strike....

Albert waited and he waited....and he waited some more.... nothing...zip...zilch...nada... Albert let out another sigh of relief. He was surprised he hadn't died from a heart attack from all the damn stress he had been facing. Albert took a deep breath and looked around the corner, there was nothing there. He back tracked a bit curious to see what had made the noise, to his luck it was nothing. Albert decided to look around a bit more. He soon came across a small kitchen knife. Albert gladly took the new found treasure and continued on his way... He was a few blocks away from the hotel...Albert open the door just a bit and used his mirror to check what was waiting for him in the streets...

A zombie dog, just a block away. Albert decided to take out the dog. Albert inched away from the door he went over to the counter to retrieve a small wooden stool. It wold be a good weapon against a humanoid zombie, but it would be enough to put down the mutt. Albert opened the door a bit more he let out a loud whistle for the dog to hear. Sure enough the mutt cam running, it slowly opened the door. Albert was waiting at the side, once the zombie dog peeked i's head through the door. Albert slammed the stool down at the undead dog. The stool shattered, but it was enough to break the dogs neck...

The dog yelped, Albert merely stomped at the dogs neck, shattering the already broken bones for good measure. Once the dog was dead Albert continued on his way downtown towards the grand hotel. It was just one block away now, Albert was going at a decent pace. Albert's plan was to try and get to the maintenance room, or the security room of the hotel. If He was lucky Albert might find the map and the basic lay out of the hotel. Albert also noted to himself that chances are, is that he'll probably use the cliche escape vent plan....

Soon enough Albert managed to get to the hotel, the first place Albert needed to get to was the Security room. To get to that, Albert had to go through the lobby....Albert reached the front door, with much caution and stealth Albert angled his mirror to check the area....

The area was clear. Albert entered the lobby still on his toes ready for action. Albert looked around only to find yet ANOTHER can of soda. Albert let out a sigh and picked it up. Albert continued towards the counter. Behind the counter there was the security door. It seemed closed at the moment. Albert decided to try it out. He crouched low and used his mirror once more to check through the window....Albert let out a frustrated sigh, a blind spot.....Albert took his baton and readied himself for a fight....

A soda... A soda...out of all the damn things it could of been waiting in the blind spot.....ANOTHER DAMNED SODA. This was getting on Albert's nerves. Albert picked it up reluctantly. For a few minutes Albert scanned the area, he searched high and low. It seemed yet again the fates where on Albert's side for the mean time. Albert found a map, Albert was able to locate the maintenance room....perhaps there would be a ventilation layout in the maintenance room.... Albert rolled the map away and tucked it into his coat....Albert then made his way towards the maintenance room....but first Albert checked the hallway with his mirror...

The hallway was safe, Albert walked down the hall cautiously. He began to relax a bit, it was some time since he encountered an undead, he was grateful but what he really wanted was perhaps some more glue, maybe a knife.... a Baton would be great....Albert shrugged it off. Beggars cant be choosers, after all the world wasn't about to show humanity some mercy... Albert took a few steps, when suddenly a memory snapped his attention....Albert staggered a few steps back....Albert took his mirror and checked the corner....his hands was shaking but he was able to hold on to it.....

A pair of zombies, one dead man and one dead woman... They where in a room adjacent to the hall way. Albert decided to use the regular trick. Distract and sneak away. Albert took one of can of soda, he shook it furiously, and chucked it at the far corner of the room. The can hit the wall and busted open, it let out a stream of soda fizzling around spinning in circles. The Zombies walked over to the can and looked at it curiously. At that moment, Albert moved quickly an stealthily down the hall avoiding the  zombies. Albert continued down with much caution and haste. Soon enough he was able to find the maintenance room... Albert slowly approached the rooms door, and opened it just a tiny bit to check what was inside...

The maintenance room was vacant, no threats could be found. Albert quietly opened the door, and shut it behind him. Albert took a chair and used it to barricade the door to prevent any unwanted company. Albert saw a back up generator, a vent on the left, a few chairs a locker. Albert looked around, everything was scattered around. A complete mess like everything else in the world. Albert opened a file cabinet, after a few minutes of digging he was able to find the ventilation schematics for the building. Albert took the schematics and headed towards the back up generator. Thanks to his experience as a janitor, he was able to learn a few basic trick. One of which was to get the generator working. After inspecting a few wires, Albert pulled the chord. The generator roared back to life. The lights flickered on, it seemed that chances are each floor had a generator to power it up. The Ventilation should still be non functional. For now Albert decided to travel by vents for the mean time... However it seemed that sound of the generator had alerted some company....
